CEBU CITY — The Capitol Center Seventh-day Adventist Church marked its 68th anniversary throughout Aug. 2026, combining historical reflection with community outreach under the theme “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness Through the Generations.”
The milestone event drew inspiration from Psalm 145:4: “One generation shall commend Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.”
Founded in 1958, the church celebrated its anniversary with a series of community-focused activities led by church elders and members. Highlights included an elders’ crusade in Barangay Apas, a bloodletting drive, and hospital and home visitations for the sick and elderly.
“Our theme, “Celebrating God’s Faithfulness Through the Generations,” beautifully reflects the message of Psalm 145:4: “One generation shall commend Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.”
“The faith, sacrifices, prayers, dedication, and service of the pioneers have become a spiritual heritage that today’s generation is called to preserve, strengthen, and pass on to those who will follow,” another church leader added.
The celebration reached a central focus on Sabbath, Aug. 22, 2026, with a special worship service honoring senior members as living witnesses of the church’s history.
“They were honored as living witnesses of the church’s journey through the years. Their lives represent decades of prayer, sacrifice, faithfulness, and service,” one church member said. “Their presence reminded the younger generations that the church we enjoy today was built upon the dedication of those who came before us. Their stories are not merely memories of the past; they are testimonies of God’s leading.”
Pastor Agapito Catane, retired president of the former Central Philippine Union Conference, delivered the Divine Worship message and encouraged the congregation to carry forward the mission established by early pioneers.
On the Sabbath afternoon, members distributed tracts and “Words of Hope” booklets and conducted feeding programs in the local community.
“Those activities became one of the most meaningful expressions of the anniversary theme. The celebration was not simply about looking back—it was about moving forward,” another church elder said.
“The pioneers who established the work in the past carried the light of the gospel to their generation. Today, the present generation carries that same light to the community,” he added.
The month-long observance concluded with a church family fellowship on Aug. 23, 2026. Pastor Kim Bernabe Felias, CCSDA church pastor, delivered the devotional message, challenging current members to preserve the church’s legacy and continue its outreach efforts in the city.
Pastor Felias emphasized a powerful reminder: “What the pioneers established through their faith and dedication continues to shine today as a beacon of light, spreading the everlasting gospel.
One church member shared that there were seasons of difficulty, uncertainty, sacrifice, and change. “Yet through every generation, God continued to provide people who were willing to serve, families who were willing to sacrifice, leaders who were willing to lead, young people who were willing to answer the call, and members who continued to proclaim the everlasting gospel.”
For CCSDAC, the mission continues. The light continues to shine. The gospel continues to go forward, and God’s faithfulness continues through the generations. Looking back on 68 years, one truth stands above everything else for them: It is not simply 68 years of human accomplishment—it is 68 years of God’s faithfulness.
