SIBULAN, Philippines — Around 60 youth delegates from various local churches gathered in Negros Oriental for the District 21 Youth Care Groups Camp, a seven-day event focused on spiritual growth, leadership, and fellowship.
The camp, which ran from May 24 to 31 in Brgy. Balugo in La Preza, Sibulan, was centered on the theme “Stand as a Light.” Organized to encourage young people to become more active in church ministries, the event brought together youth from across the district to strengthen their faith and build stronger relationships with fellow youth members.
The weeklong program featured a balanced schedule of devotionals, inspirational talks, team-building exercises, and worship services.
Facilitators also set schedules for open discussion and sharing, during which participants were given opportunities to share experiences and interact with one another. Through these sessions, participants learned the importance of cooperation, leadership, and service.
Pastor Leve Hermosa, Negros Oriental-Siquijor Mission (NSM) youth director, and Pastor Jester Jed Gapor, assigned pastor for District 21, focused on basic biblical doctrines discussions, with specific emphasis on the 28 Fundamental Beliefs.
Local church leaders noted the positive influence of the gathering on the participants.
“Seeing our young people gather, learn, and grow together has been truly encouraging,” said Elder Jether, the elders’ president. “Activities like this help strengthen their faith and remind them that they have an important place in the church and in God’s work. We hope this experience will inspire them to continue serving and leading by example.”
The camp’s format blended spiritual instruction with recreational activities that taught cooperation and service. Participants shared that the collaborative environment helped them refocus on their personal faith and community responsibilities.
“This camp helped me reconnect with God and reminded me of the importance of staying active in church,” said Jamaica, a youth attendee. “I also gained new friends and learned valuable lessons that I will carry with me.”
Another attendee, Shane, emphasized the impact of the group dynamics, observing that the team activities and fellowship highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation among the youth.
According to organizing leaders, the event has sparked increased interest in local ministry involvement. Delegate David said the messages shared during the week encouraged him to become more confident in serving, leaving him motivated to be more involved in ministry.
Following the event, district leaders announced plans to continue organizing similar youth development and fellowship activities. Many participants expressed a desire to attend future camps and maintain their involvement in district programs.
